Ofgem’s Proposal P272: Industry Moves Towards More Accurate Billing
What is P272?
P272 is a proposal which has been implemented by Ofgem (the UK’s energy regulators) in which all affected sites must use accredited, automated meters which are capable of sending regular half hourly data to energy suppliers so that they can calculate and bill them accordingly.
Why is P272 being implemented?
Implementation of the proposal will mean that energy bills for the supplies affected will be much more accurate. The accuracy of the bills will ensure supplies are being correctly charged and will help to identify applicable energy efficiency measures and associated cost savings.
Does this affect my business?
All businesses using electricity meters that fall into profile classes 05 up to 08 will be required to supply their usage data on a half hourly basis. The first two numbers on the top line of your supply’s MPAN indicate it’s profile class (number highlighted red here).
My business is affected, what do we need to do?
From November 5th 2015, those businesses in profile classes 05-08 who already have accredited, automated half-hourly meters installed on site will be priced and settled half hourly. For those who don’t, suppliers have until April 2017 to ensure affected sites have a half hourly meter and associated meter operation and data collection contracts.
